We are called to memorialize, which means praise, remember and honor, those who have given their lives to protect our democracy. Democracy is a very important form of government to protect in this world. Millions have come to these shores seeking the justice and fair treatment offered by democracy.
This Sunday we will honor and remember those humans who have sacrificed for the sacred values we hold dear such as “liberty and justice for all”.
We will also remember and honor where the principles of our democracy came from – the Iroquois Nation and its constitution given by the Great Peacemaker.
There is a deep spiritual ancestry to democratic government and now more than ever we need to remember and embody the powerful spiritual legacy of those who believe in freedom.
